The music director of an Augusta church was arrested Thursday on allegations that he committed sexual battery on a 16-year-old boy during choir practice, according to a sheriff’s report.
Kelvin Moore II, 21, of Hephzibah, is being held in the Richmond County Jail on the sexual battery charges.
Moore serves as the music director at Ebenezer 7th Day Adventist Church on Olive Road, according to a sheriff’s report. A phone call to the church Friday went unanswered.
The alleged victim’s father called the cops last Tuesday to report the assault, which he said occurred the week before during choir practice.
From a sheriff’s report: “His son was acting strangely after he picked him up. … After several days, he asked his son what was wrong. His son told him while at practice, he and suspect Kelvin Moore, who is the music director at the church, had been playing around when suspect Moore put his hand down into his pants and grabbed his penis. His son told him that Moore held on to him this way for several seconds.”
Moore denied touching his son when confronted by the teen’s father, a report says. The father wanted the music director prosecuted and asked officers not to speak to the victim because of his frame of mind.
An investigation led to Thursday’s arrest. A sheriff’s report describes Moore as being 6’4″ tall and 270 pounds while the victim is 9 inches shorter and weighs just 120 pounds.
